The Cedar Wall Building has been named after a past pupil, Thomas Wall, who died suddenly in August 2011 at the age of 14. The building is clad in Cedar shingles and Thomas was Cedar House Captain whilst at Howe Green House School.
Introduction
The Project 2012 Committee was set up by the Senior Management Team and Governing Board in September 2010 to review the existing infrastructure of the school and look at how this could be developed to meet the increasing needs of pupils, teachers and parents.
From the outset it was clear that the priority was to build a new Junior facility to house Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Building a new facility would also free up existing areas of the school for redevelopment. Priorities for this redevelopment included; improving the ICT suite, school library, art, design and technology facilities, relocating the reception area to the ground floor and creating additional office space upstairs in the main building.
Over the following 21 months the Project 2012 Committee, together with architects, surveyors and building consultants, agreed the parameters for the project, developed plans for the new building, agreed budgets and applied for planning permission from Uttlesford District Council. Planning permission was granted in March 2012 and in July 2012 the on-site build commenced for this amazing new building.
The cost to build the new Junior facility was £610,000. So the school decided to launch The Cedar Wall Building Appeal Fund – which had a target of £100,000 to raise. The proceeds of the appeal fund have been used towards the new build and any further donations received will be used for the redevelopment of the existing site.
This is where we still need your help:
Outlined below are the ways in which you can support this amazing development for your school.
Ways to donate
The school is a registered charity (number 297106) and can therefore benefit from Gift Aid. The following options are available to you:
One-off donations
Donations can be made by cheque or bank transfer whichever is convenient. Please complete a ‘Ways of Giving’ form. Like regular donations, one-off gifts are eligible for the Gift Aid Scheme if the donor is a UK taxpayer. By completing the ‘Gift Aid’ form, the School can reclaim basic rate income tax paid on a donor’s gift. In addition, higher rate taxpayers can claim the difference between the basic and higher rates of tax. See the table below.
Regular donations
Regular donations can be made by standing order on an annual, quarterly or monthly basis according to the donor’s wishes. Like one-off donations, regular gifts are eligible for the Gift Aid Scheme if the donor is a UK taxpayer. By completing the ‘Gift Aid’ form, the School can reclaim basic rate income tax paid on a donor’s gift. In addition, higher rate taxpayers can claim the difference between the basic and higher rates of tax. See the table opposite. Additional ‘Ways of Giving’ forms and ‘Gift Aid’ forms are available from The School Bursar and from mid June on the school website.

The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) allows you to set up a charity account in you name and is the most convenient and tax-efficient way to give. It works in a similar way to a current account, but only holds funds that you put aside to give to your favourite charities.
