Sustainability

Howe Green House is actively committed to sustainability and our ethos involves integrating environmentally friendly practices, promoting social responsibility and fostering a culture of awareness and action among children, staff and the school community.

Integrating sustainability into the curriculum is a powerful way to instil environmental consciousness and social responsibility in our students. We incorporate sustainability topics into the curriculum across a range of subjects and topics. This can include Science, Geography, Philosophy, and even in Literature and History classes. Our Year Six Sustainability Captains promote a range of initiatives around school, from recycling (anything from clothes to electrical items) to arranging litter picks.

Our most recent building projects, The Cedar Wall building and Mulberry Lodge, were designed with sustainability in mind, using natural timber products, air source heating and LED lighting. The Cedar Wall building even features a living (sedum) roof. Their designs contrast pleasingly with the more traditional and historic buildings on the site.

In addition to this, we have dedicated outdoor learning spaces that can be used for Woodland School, environmental studies, gardening and other hands-on activities. This allows students to connect with nature and learn about sustainability in a practical setting.

By continuing to build on these initiatives and exploring new avenues for sustainability, Howe Green House can inspire positive change and contribute to a more sustainable future. This holistic approach ensures that sustainability becomes an integral part of the school’s identity and daily operations.
