Co-Curricular
Clubs
In the Pre-Prep Department, we offer a wide range of clubs and activities that will appeal to our youngest pupils and make their first experience of school not only fun and exciting, but also one that helps them build friendships, confidence and a sense of independence. Children have the option to attend an after-school club every day of the week throughout each term. These activities are led by our wonderful staff team as well as excellent external providers. Clubs include Yoga, Football, Cricket, Ballet, Choir, Multi-skills and Arts and Crafts. Some of these clubs are also offered to the Prep children, meaning the children in the younger years can work with those higher up the school. At Howe Green House, the co-curricular timetable changes each term and continues to evolve each year based on the needs of our pupils and the environment around us.
Woodland School
At Howe Green House School, staff understand, and embrace, the importance of learning outside in nature. That is why the Pre-Prep offers regular outdoor learning opportunities through Woodland School lessons in our beautiful on-site forest area and extensive grounds.
Immersing children in the wonders of nature and building an appreciation of the great outdoors is an important part of a child’s education at Howe Green House and Little Oaks Nursery. The benefits of Woodland School are numerous, fostering holistic development and cultivating a profound connection with the environment.
At Howe Green House, children engage in hands-on learning, enhancing their physical and motor skills as they navigate uneven terrain, develop practical skills and explore natural landscapes. This immersive outdoor experience promotes a sense of independence, resilience and self-confidence, empowering children to overcome challenges and develop problem-solving skills.
The wonderful setting of Howe Green House has a number of rich outdoor learning environments, stimulating creativity and imagination. From growing seeds and plants in the school’s greenhouse to den building in the grounds and trips to the nearby Hatfield Forest, you will always find the children ready to explore with their wellies waiting for them outside their classroom!
During their lessons, social skills flourish in the outdoor setting, as children collaborate on projects, share discoveries, and communicate happily. The inclusive nature promotes teamwork and empathy, strengthening interpersonal relationships. Moreover, the exposure to the natural world and the inclusive nature of Woodland School promotes positive mental health and fosters well-being.
By instilling a sense of responsibility towards the Earth, we hope the children leave Howe Green House with a strong ecological ethic and ensures they are environmentally conscious citizens of the future.
Trips
We encourage our children to develop a curiosity for exploration through the various trips and experience days which are planned and adapted termly according to the topics covered by each year group throughout our Pre-Prep department.
To educate the whole person there needs to be a wealth of experiences encapsulating the mind and the body. They work in unison to develop our children’s vision of the ‘here and now’ and the wonder of ‘what was’ and ‘what if’s’.
No adventure is too big or small for our Pre-Prep department. We are delighted to embrace the world outside our classrooms and bring it to life.
Where the magic happens
Historically, our youngest members have loved to visit the pantomime. We have immersed our children in the natural world, taking in its sights, sounds and smells and enjoyed trips to the beach soaking up the sun, sea and an ice-cream to ensure our energy levels are kept high.
Trips further afield, like to the Tower of London, inspire our pupils and bring their topic work and curriculum to life.
A wealth of inspiring delights are always instore for the Pre-Prep children on their outings.
Our vision through a world of exploration
The trips are varied and captivating, enriched with educational values and powerful experiences supporting our classroom learning and of course engrossing the children’s innate imagination, exploration and genuine desire to expand their knowledge beyond our incredible school grounds.
Memories which last a lifetime and experiences which spark curiosity.
