Sport (Prep)

At Howe Green House, sport is an integral part of school life and the staff are passionate about delivering it to a high standard. We make learning fun in the Prep School and teach to cover the entire range of abilities. The enormous variety of sports we cover include Netball, Football, Tag Rugby, Hockey, Athletics, Cricket, Gymnastics and Swimming in addition to many others.

We are blessed with outstanding facilities on site and off site including vast areas of outdoor space for football, rugby, cricket, athletics and netball. This enables us to host a number of local and ISA sporting events throughout the year. As well as external fixtures, there are termly House Matches and the prestigious Howe Green House Sports Day each summer.

The pupils benefit from our local connections and we utilise the facilities at Herts and Essex, Thorley Cricket Club and Grange Paddocks for their outstanding astroturf pitches, cricket facilities and swimming pool.

We believe that involvement in team sports cultivates essential life skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership. Our pupils learn to collaborate with teammates and teachers, work towards common goals, manage conflicts and celebrate successes together. In the Prep School, we successfully compete in both local fixtures, as well as the I.S.A London North Region where we frequently have children and teams who qualify for the National Championships in a variety of sports.

The children have plenty of opportunity to work on sporting skills, as they have Games lessons twice a week and a PE lesson once a week. In addition to this, there are a huge range of sports clubs delivered afterschool. These are led by the staff and external coaches including former professionals and Olympic medalists.

Through participating in sports, the children foster a sense of belonging and community within the school. Sports events and team camaraderie create bonds among our children, promoting school spirit and pride. At Howe Green House, we believe sport enriches the prep school experience, nurturing not only physical health but also social, emotional and personal development too. Our sporting programme has a sport for all approach, but also challenges the most able to perform at high levels with a number of them going on to sport scholarships at senior schools.
